Colour blocking fun!

Photography by Nicholas Teo

Wearing Topshop denim shirt and suede loafer, Exhibit flare skirt and Louis Vuitton “Speedy”

I love colour and looking at my closet, it seems I’ve been very adventurous, experimenting with yellow, orange, red and pink! The only colour I haven’t exactly embraced is green. When I say green, I mean “Incredible Hulk green”, “teal” and the rest of the green spectrum. (Mint not included). Colour blocking is one “trend” (for the lack of a better word) you will see more on this blog because it somewhat became part of my style.

This canary yellow skirt is more vibrant than what you see on the screen and it seems I have had alot of wear out of it since I purchased it from Exhibit last month. I love the slight flare and the beautiful shade of yellow . The only downside is that it is a tad too big for me! Thankfully, there are many ways to styling this piece as well as the cotton candy pink pants I picked up at Exhibit!

My shopping quota has been met for this month, ’nuff said.

so layered so good!

Wearing: H&M jacket (as seen here), Topshop striped tee, Zara skirt, Steve Madden heels, F21 necklace

My lunch time includes outfit photo taking by my colleague Gwen who loves fashion as much as I do! I think she is the few who can hear me ramble about fashion and colours with me without feeling bored and plus she has such a quirky dress sense and a keen eye! Praise JESUS.

I realise that I usually dress up more when it rains because then I can layer as much as I want without
a) looking like a homeless lady
b) feel too warm in usually sunny Singapore

Today’s outfit is actually simple. I wanted to keep warm and mix some patterns and textures. The H&M jacket is made of wool and mohair on the outside but it has linen lining which is perfect so my skin doesn’t itch. I got it at a sale recently and got it at a steal! Would love to pair it with a lemon top and my smurf blue pants one day.

Wedding Planning: The Venue

Photography by Nicholas Teo

Wearing: Zara Striped Top, Topshop Nautical Shorts, Leather Bag and Arm Party, TOMS shoes

While looking through the archive of pictures we had, we found these photos which were taken at ShangriLa Rasa Sentosa (eeks! this was BEFORE I cut my hair!). We were there to recee the location with some friends as well as consider it as a possible wedding venue. The place is really pretty but we need to look at more locations before deciding! It’s been so fun!

We had a picnic of sorts at one of the table+benches. It was a simple picnic as we took holy communion, indulged in fresh strawberries, grapes and chips. It was truly breathtaking at sunset.

Stripes and Statement

Wearing: Uniqlo striped tee, Zara skinny jeans and parka (similar here), Topshop lace up oxfords, Longchamp Pilage

So this is what I wore yesterday, when it was raining and on my way to work. Colleagues thought I was dressed for Friday due to the somewhat casual outfit. If I wore my newly acquired coral/pink heels, it would have looked less casual and more colourful I suppose. Is it just me or yesterday really felt like a Friday? And I couldn’t be happier that today’s actually a Friday!

I dress from my shoes up so usually I’d decide on the choice of footwear for the day and match my outfit to it. If it happens to be rainy day, suede shoes or heels are a no-no, and usually it would be flats. If Singapore was cooler, I would be wearing red Hunter boots.

This Zara parka jacket is the most versatile article of clothing in my entire closet. I could layer it on everything and it always looks amazing. Most importantly, it keeps me toasty warm all the time…

The Mesquite Chicken sandwich with bacon and the Cinnamon Sugar cookie (from Quiznos) I had for lunch yesterday was the most filling and satisfying I had in awhile. The company was better. Thank you for your crazy fun fashion fuelled conversations Gwen! :)

Bangkok Diary

Photography by Nicholas

These are the pictures from my most recent trip to Bangkok, Thailand in March. I have been putting off this post because I wanted it to be purposeful and not just an “update” of one of the most memorable happenings in my life. This trip marks one of the many firsts – it was my first trip with  Nicholas’s family, my first trip to Bangkok and my first time on an 84th storey building!

As promised in one of my previous post, I’m happy to share the exciting news! As many of you who are following me on Instagram @theladiesaffair, you would have guessed that Nicholas popped the all important life-changing question!

Bangkok as you know is famous for food and shopping but during this trip, I could only relate to the food part because I could not find much to buy. Perhaps in my next post, I’d share the glorious food pictures with you.

Photo 1 to 3: We visited Chatuchak Market during the first day of the trip and all I remember was getting lost in the sea of everything and everything was so cheap! Chatuchak Market is a treasure trove if you bother looking around in the heat. I’m not kidding when I say you can find anything and everything in that space. These black and white photos were probably the first photos taken at a random fruit juice stall. I must have drank two large cups of cranberry juice (with crushed ice!) because I was so thirsty! Think of it as two grande cranberry frappes equivalent!!

Photo 4: Random shot of a Singer sewing machine used as a table at a eatery.

Photo 5: Chinatown at night. Random fact: All six of us squeezed into ONE tuk tuk for 130baht (S$5.42) to Chinatown that evening. Too bad we couldn’t take a picture of us looking hilarious and perching precariously on the tuk tuk. It was a hell-ish ride to say the least.

Photo 6 to 14: On the 3rd day of the trip, Nicholas whisked me to the 84th floor of Baiyoke Sky Hotel and on the rotating platform admist the setting sun, he proposed on a bended knee, asking if I will marry him. (Rabbit trail alert…) At first I thought he was kneeling to take some pictures of the spectacular view, but when I saw the ring, I was awestruck because I didn’t expect he would choose to propose in Bangkok. So you can imagine my expression when I saw him kneeling and thrusting the engagement ring towards me. I reckon nothing could ever prepare me for that  moment, no girly chats and no amount of envisioning the perfect proposal (since I grew up on Disney films) could prepare me for that moment. You see, I’m that sort of independent lady who grew up thinking I’d never get married thinking there cannot be a man “out there” that speaks my lingo and loves me the way I am (shopaholic, quirks and all :P ). So somewhere deep in the recess of my heart, I burried my feelings, ziplocked all the love I had in my heart and kept the key. I wanted to hold on to this precious love for someone who was worthy to be loved, worthy of my love. I’m pretty sure all the failed relationships/friendships I had, in some way or another made me a guarded person and I did not want to be open to more wounds. But I admit, Jesus won my heart eventually. As cheesy as it sounds, Jesus had the key to my heart from the beginning and merely entrusted the key to Nicholas. Jesus taught me many lessons and built & tested my character before I was ready to be courted and willing to commit. For that, I’m very thankful because in Him, I have a solid foundation and rock on whom I look to throughout this beautiful journey Nicholas and I will embark.

P/S: I don’t have photos of the actual proposal but a video of the whole thing filmed secretly by Nicholas’s brother. That one is something altogether.

Photo 15 to 18: Last day of the trip having lunch at Siam Paragon, there was this huge aquarium seperating me and this other diner. Thought it was quite cool.

Photo 19: A really cute Thai Chinese girl who was too shy to let us take her photo

Photo 20: The engagement ring taken up close with my iphone.

Can you tell that Bangkok is a hot hot city! It was 35deg celcius (95deg fahrenheit) and the humidity was THIS high. This made for shorts & cotton tee combo everyday.

I wonder where we should head to for our next holiday? :)

The Peplum

Photos from Song of Style LuxuryShoppers

Let’s talk about the peplum here.
“Peplum” refers to a flared ruffle attached to the waist of a jacket, bodice, etc.

Peplum skirts are a nono for me, peplum dresses are a maybe but I’m dreaming of a textured, mint peplum top I saw at H&M yesterday.
I’ve a few ideas on how to wear it with simple but sophisticated pieces like fitted pants, distressd denim (skirt or jeans) and pencil skirts are best as it creates the illusion of a smaller waist and hour glass figure. It will probably be the most ladylike item in my closet if H&M has the top in my size.

My picks here & here and the high street (purse friendly one) here.
